Beneath the Waves ( Seascapes)

Brief

To showcase the work of SeaScapes project partners, Beneath the Waves, who led community dive expeditions in the SeaScapes project area that extends out to sea stretching along the coastline between the rivers Tyne and Tees. 

Our Response

We created the tablet-based Wreck Finder Expedition game that enabled players to virtually explore a wreck site, uncover artefacts and use the information they find to identify the wreck. 

As well as providing an insight into the process of diving and investigating wrecks, the game also enabled easy navigation through the history of the vessels, with information about the crews, survivors and casualties of the wrecks together with information about the fauna and flora that have colonised the wrecks over time. It encouraged players to piece together evidence in a fun way to gain an understanding of how wreck investigations take place.  

On completion of each virtual dive, players’ final reward was the ability to see high-resolution wreck dive models alongside a 3D model of how the vessel looked before it sank.  

The response to the experience has been overwhelmingly positive with the team reporting greatly improved visitor engagement at public events.
