As part of Belfast 2024, Belfast City Council in partnership with BT wanted to deliver a world-class immersive XR experience within Belfast City Hall to complement the City Hall exhibition.

The experience needed to be self-guided, story-led, emotionally engaging, playful, accessible to all and should reflect the aims and principles of Belfast 2024’s celebration of culture and creativity.

We created an immersive visitor experience themed around City Speech, City Streets and the City at play, using augmented reality together with gesture-control interactives.

Visitors can explore a virtual library and interact with books and objects within it to reveal stories highlighting the nuanced and varied dialect and idioms of Belfast speech; They can explore the streets of Belfast and discover the hidden river Farset beneath their feet and key characters from the past as well as exploring the city of today and of the future.  Visitors can also create and feature in their own virtual postcard or try Streetrunner, a gesture-controlled game that takes visitors through the virtual streets of Belfast, highlighting key landmarks and attractions.
