National Museum, Cardiff //  Amgueddfa Cymru

With the arrival of ‘Tom Bones’, the National Museum’s new mammoth skeleton, it felt only right that we feature him in phase 3 of the ExplorAR experience, with new handsets and further additions to the Evolution of Wales and Marine galleries.

We brought the mammoth to life and incorporated 3D recreations of each of the bones that tell us something about how he lived and died over 12,000 years ago. Visitors can explore the bones and discover more about what palaeontologists can deduce from long-buried remains.

Along with the ExplorAR experience, we created a touchscreen interactive experience to tell the story of his discovery in Condover.

In the galleries, we incorporated more dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures into the Evolution of Wales gallery and introduced a scavenger hunt for visitors to seek out hidden, fact-filled dinosaur eggs. In the marine gallery we added more species and fact-filled clam shells to collect.

Further additions to the galleries will include experiences exploring evidence from space and the evolution of early life.
